DDOS Attacks, Purchases and Open Search
The internet has been going crazy the last week with news of DDOS attacks on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. As you might have heard by now Facebook has purchased FriendFeed, Mashable Article (Which in my humble opinion is a HUGE play for Facebook), and last but not least as of last night Facebook has opened up their search to cover the entire Facebook site. Twitter better watch it’s back for a number of reasons:
1. Facebook proved that it has the infrastructure to handle a web attack that brought Twitter down. Not only did Twitter crash for a couple hours the attack it continued to limp for several more days.
2. FriendFeed has proved it was on the path to take on Twitter, and now with the power and knowledge of the entire Facebook team they have the ability to do just that.
3. By integrating the search capability Facebook now has everything that Twitter has plus a few hundred thousand more users, designated groups, and fan pages.
I’m looking forward to seeing what becomes of the Facebook - FriendFeed deal and what it means for the future of Social Media.
